Secret Walls × Edmonton Mural Festival | 90-Minute Live Art Battle

Three artists. One wall. 90 minutes. Crowd of 250 + and No room to overthink.

JD Art joined fellow Edmonton artists for a live Secret Walls × Edmonton Mural Festival battle, where two teams of three were given just 90 minutes to create a complete collaborative mural in front of a live audience 6 Artists, 2 Teams. Partnered with Rahmaan Hameed Studios and Alixandra Jade.

Working alongside artists with different styles, JD Art brought portraiture, bold negative space and his recognizable visual language into a composition that had to evolve in real time. There were no multi-day painting sessions or endless revisions. Every decision had to be made quickly while responding to the artwork developing around it.

The final piece brought portraiture, anime influences, florals and expressive mark-making together into one cohesive wall.

The battle ultimately came down to the audience, with JD Art’s team narrowly losing the crowd-decibel vote. But the experience represented something bigger: collaboration under pressure, trusting instinct, and creating ambitious artwork while hundreds of eyes watch the process unfold.
