THE CYPHER × JD ART

Live Mural. Live Skate Ramp. Three Hours.

The art wasn’t created before the event. It happened inside it.

For The Cypher at The Grind, JD created an original live mural in approximately three hours while the skate ramp directly in front of the artwork was actively being skated.

Skaters were hitting the ramp as the mural developed behind them, turning the painting process into part of the environment rather than a separate performance, also serving as a backdrop to the music stage.

Inspired by skate culture, movement and the energy of a cypher, the artwork was designed to feel like it belonged to the action happening in front of it. JD Art combined perspective, street-art influences, expressive colour and dynamic imagery across two large panels, building the entire piece while the event continued around him.

There was no quiet studio and no empty venue.

Skateboards hitting the ramp. People moving through the event. Music, conversation and energy. And a mural being created in real time behind it all.

Within roughly three hours, the blank surface became a finished piece and part of The Cypher experience.

The project showcases JD Art’s ability to create under pressure and adapt his mural practice for live events, festivals, sporting events, brand activations and community experiences where the process can be just as engaging as the finished artwork.
