Recovery in Colour

In 2026, JD Art joined artists in Jasper, Alberta for the UpLift! Jasper Mural Festival, contributing to Recovery in Colour, a public art initiative connected to the community’s continued recovery following the devastating 2024 Jasper wildfire.

Over three days, JD Art transformed all four sides of a seacan for local business Video Stop, creating an immersive freestyle mural inspired by nostalgia, imagination, resilience and the business’s transition toward a new identity as Skate Shack.

The artwork combines the mythical feeling of bringing home a VHS as a kid with the raw energy of skateboard and street culture. Created without a rigid predetermined composition, each side evolved organically throughout the festival.

The result is a piece about more than recovery. It celebrates transition, creativity and the possibility of building something new from what came before.
