A La Morenita - Chicano / Mexican & Canadian mix -(in progress)
Culture in motion. Icons in color. This wall is more than a canvas—it’s a voice.
The La Morenita mural is currently in progress, and already it’s one of the most powerful walls I’ve had the honour of painting. Located on the outside of La Morenita café in Edmonton, this piece blends Mexican and Canadian identities with Chicano-style visual storytelling—loud, bold, spiritual, and rooted in history.
This mural pulls from generations of struggle, pride, and movement. I’m incorporating figures like Emiliano Zapata, The Aztec warrior, and the Virgin Mary, along with cultural symbols like the Chicano flag, the new autism infinity symbol, and the iconic Walterdale Bridge. Every section is meant to carry weight—and connect.
As always, I’m weaving in my JD Art signature style—realism embedded in cartoon. It creates a layered effect, where symbols, gods, and activists don’t just stand out visually, but feel alive. A blend of past, present, and dream.
The mural is still evolving, and I’ll be updating this page as more elements come to life. Every stroke brings new meaning. Check back soon to see how this story unfolds.
This isn’t just a mural—it’s a moveable identity piece, designed to travel and evolve just like the Centre and the community it serves.
