Africa Centre Mural - Community

Community. Identity. Movement.

This vibrant mural for the Africa Centre captures the energy of cultural connection and the power of transition—painted on movable panels so the spirit of the Centre can journey with them, wherever they go.

The Africa Centre mural is a special one for me—not just for what it looks like, but for what it represents. With the Centre preparing for relocation, the murals were painted on wooden panels, allowing the artwork to move with them from one home to the next. It’s about continuity—carrying the soul of a space forward, no matter where it lands.

I brought together the elements that define my JD Art style: a blend of realism and cartoon, symbolic layers, and emotional storytelling. Each mural panel features a bold sunset that warms the entire piece, nodding to legacy, roots, and resilience. A bright red ribbon flows through each work, visually tying the panels together and representing unity across generations.

With connective elements throughout this mural and Bent Arrow, connected by IFSSA (Islamic Family Social Services Association). I drew on that energy—bringing back the city skyline, adding familiar cartoon expressions, and mixing it with sharp realism to tell a deeper story. It’s both playful and grounded—rooted in culture, growth, and forward motion.

This isn’t just a mural—it’s a moveable identity piece, designed to travel and evolve just like the Centre and the community it serves.
